PostgreSQL refresh with no gateway

Hello, I have my data on a PostreSQL and I'm connecting throug ODBC.

The problem is I must use a gateway to refresh my data.

Is there a way to use a connection between PowerBI and PostreSQL without using the gateway?

If I put my PostgreSQL on Azure, will I still need it?

I've read some threads about it but they're all few years old so I was hoping that the situation has been changed

Hi @fabiomanniti ,

It depends on what level of automation of refresh you want. Some options:

1) You can open your PBIX, refresh and republish if you want no automation.

2) You can set up a personal gateway on your own machine, or any other, if you want automation with no fail-over support and single-admin administration (you), but only when the chosen machine is on.

3) You can set up an enterprise gateway on multiple machines and 'cluster' them if you want automation with fail-over support and the ability for multiple admins to administer them, but only when the relevant machine(s) are on.

4) You can move your data to any platform within the Microsoft universe (anything based on sharePoint such as Teams, OneDrive for Business etc., or Azure etc.) for automation with no specific gateway, but at the loss of a certain level of control over the refresh process.

Thank you @BA_Pete

Well, what I want is

  1. Authomatic daily refresh
  2. No need of a gateway (any kind of gateway)

I need my DB to be in PostgreSQL and, at the moment, it's on Google Cloud Platform.

My question is: If I move my data on Azure

  • Can I keep a PostgreSQL datamart?
  • Is it possible to auto refresh my dataflows without gateway?

Because I want to know in advance before I start to move all my data to Azure and then I find out I still need the gateway

Thank you so much

Hi @fabiomanniti

Could you find a solution?
Were you able to migrate to Azure and have the auto refresh?

I am in the same situation.

Thanks!

@fabiomanniti ,

Re: your questions:

1) No idea if you can keep your datamart. Sounds like a very specialised question to me, which would probably need very specific research into your specific scenario.

2) Yes, within certain bounds. As before, Azure is within the Microsoft universe, so gateways not usually required. I suggest you check out the MS Docs entry about all this, as there's a whole lot more detail to be considered that can't reasonably be covered here.
