On-premise gateway on a server: how to sign in automatically after restart?

Hi,

I have installed the Power Bi on-premise gateway on a windows server.

It works well while it's on, but every time the server is restarted it requires to start the gateway again and sign in again with a power bi account. Is there a way to sign in automatically?

@jgutierrez,

You can ignore the sign in process after you restart computer. Based on my test, schedule refresh through on-premises gateway in Power BI Service still works as expected after you restart computer.

@jgutierrez,

Do you install on-premises gateway or on-premises gateway(personal mode)? Based on my test, it doesn't require to sign in gateway again after restarting  the computer.

Hi @v-yuezhe-msft,

It is not on personal mode, just the on-premises gateway. Every time I restart the server (Windows server 2016) it requires me to sign in with a power BI account.

Even when I close it on the same session I get the screen to login again (service still running though in this case)

Hi @v-yuezhe-msft

You're right, it starts running automatically as a service now. The strange thing is that the first couple of times the power bi service was not running on startup and had to be started manually.

Hi,

Thought this has been marked as solved, but we are still facing exact same issue.

Power BI data gateway has been installed closely to database on one of the Azure VM, everytime the VM is restarted it sings out the gateway and then gateway is shown as not available or offline untill we sign in again. We have ensure that we have installed the gateway in non-personal mode.

Is there any way to avoid the re-login step everytime the machine is restarted to bring gateway online?

Thanks in advance.

This has been resolved, posted details on this on separate thread and you can check it here.
