OData feed D365 Connection Error

Hello Community!

We recently enabled a connection to the D365 entities via ODatafeed. After being super exicted in the first place, I got a little setback. My two main concerns are 1. Connection Errors and 2. Speed.

With some entities I don't have any problems to connect to but others return the following error:

"Failed to save modifications to the server. Error returned: 'OLE DB or ODBC error: [DataSource.Error] OData: Request failed: The remote server returned an error: (400) Bad Request. (An error has occurred.). OLE DB or ODBC error: Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040E4E.'.

Now comes the best part: When I click "apply changes" within power bi after my load failed, the connection works, although it is extremly slow.

At other times everything just seems to be working fine (depending on the table).

I was wondering: Does anyone have similiar issues or solved such a issue? Maybe you could point me in the right direction. Unfortunatly I could not find any useful documentation for D365 from MS, nor could our so called external D365 "experts" help wih the issue. I strongly hope you can!

Best,

Nico

Hi @Anonymous

Do you connect to Dynamics 365 on-premises or online?

If it is online,Are you able to access Dynamics 365 from web browser?

It should work with Get Data-Dynamics 365 Online connector following the guide in this article.

From your information, it seems the connection finally works but slow, right?

If so, it may be a network connection issue... It maybe blocked by a firewall, there may be a problem with DNS or something.

Best Regards
Maggie

Hi Maggie,

Thank you very much for your reply. You hint to try the URL access via a webbroser seems now obvious to me in hindsight.

I thought I have full access but after copying the URL of the entity directly in the browser I got a meaningful error message:

"<Error>
<Message>An error has occurred.</Message>
<ExceptionMessage>
User is not authorized to read view InventTransferOrderHeaderEntity. Request denied.
</ExceptionMessage>

...."

So, it was a problem with access rights. Thank you very much for pointing me there. As for the other behavior it is indeed connected to the network speed. But the question is  still why it so slow (all other server connections run super smooth and fast).

Going to troubleshoot this with our IT and MS. If it is an issue on MS side I would add it here later to show how it was solved. But at least I got now access to the data.

Thanks again!

Best,

Nico
