Name of 'Attribute' cannot contain leading or trailing blank spaces or consist only of whitespace.

Yes the end and beginning spaces are key and also on one of the columns there was a <cr/lf> character.  The dataflows are able to handle the spaces within the column name but not at the beginning or end or any special characters all of which are usually invisible

Yes that's why I suggested you check for all white space like CR/LF, Tab etc.

@dukeofrockville ,

The columns in table have space after the column name. once I removed them, this error was resolved.

Dataflow automatically removes spaces but I manually did that too in the power query piece.  Further also added an alternate key.  Tried with a simple Excel file as well.  Nothing works.

Hi @dukeofrockville

Need to see your data to assist any further.

As @Krishna09  confirmed, removing spaces in column names fixed the issue.  You certain you've removed all white space fromt he column names?  Not just the space character (ASCII #32) ?

regards

Phil

Thanks @PhilipTreacy  yes there actually blanks at the end of each column name!  Hard to find but resolved by removing them.
