Within our organization we have set up the Microsoft Azure Enterprise datasource in PowerBI.com. It is very useful for us as is, but we would like to create some custom dashboards for the executive and accounting departments with data subsets and computed columns for doing client usage billing.
I have some experience using Power BI Desktop, and what I'm trying to figure out is how to attach the desktop version to the Enterprise datasource to create these custom dashboards - or if there is a way to "download and open" the powerbi.com dashboard in the desktop app to further customize it and build new dashboards.
Thus far in the online site I've created a new Accounting dashboard and been able to pin some visuals to it, but they link back to the Azure Enterprise report and don't allow me to do the slicing and filtering that I'd like to do on that particular dashboard.
I just checked today's update to Desktop and I do not see that they have added support for connectivity to Microsoft Azure Enterprise. This is not uncommon that there are content packs available in the Service that are not available as connectivity options in Desktop. Also, to the best of my knowledge, there is no way to download a dataset from the Service to Desktop.
Now, in theory, and I stress in theory, you could create a table visualization for each table in your dataset and then pin that visualization to a dashboard and then export the data from the visualization to a CSV file, import into Desktop, etc. Miserable but in theory possible.
