Get data into Power BI Desktop from Sharepoint Server 2013 On-Premises folder

Hello,

Using latest version of Power BI Desktop, and seeking guidance on the correct method for connecting to several excel files located on sharepoint intranet location.  The organization is running sharepoint server 2013 on premises, so the address of the files is something like this:

http://XYZ-intranet:8080/sites/ABC/DEF/Shared%20Documents/Forms/AllItems.aspx?RootFolder=%2fsites%2fABC%2fDEF%2fShared%20Documents%2f......

I've not had luck with Sharepoint.Files or Web.Contents, including the approaches suggested at the two links below:

https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Integrations-with-Files-and/SharePoint-On-Premise-Connection-to-Exc...

https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Integrations-with-Files-and/Connect-Power-Bi-to-Sharepoint-on-premi...

Any specific recommendations re: method (Sharepoint.FilesWeb.Contents, Folder.Files?), which level of the Sharepoint site to connect at, and what account settings to specify?  Can this be done at all? To my knowledge there is no gateway configured yet. Is this a prerequisite, or are gateways moot when using pbi desktop?

Thanks in advance for any guidance!

Have you found a solution yet?

I am also trying to extract Data from multiple excel sheets all saved in one on premise sharepoint 2013 folder, however now luck. I am only able to connect to one excel sheet at a time...

Hi @gwp,

Does this Power BI desktop run on the same machine as SharePoint server? When you follow the option suggested by v-yuezhe-msft in this thread, is there any error throws out?

Best Regards,

I'm sorry, we were getting a variety of different errors depending on what url/level of SP we tried to connect at, whioch credentials setting we selected, and which PQ methods we were using. I didn't keep track of the various errors.

We ultimately wound up getting it to work like this, Source = Excel.Workbook(Web.Contents("http://xxx/yyy/zzz/abc.xlsx"), null, true), using Windows authentication.
