We need to move an existing, On-Premises, Analysis Services Multidimensional Model, a cuble, to the Cloud on Azure?
1. is this possible? What connector or service should be used?
2. how are we suppose to do that? We can't find any documentation from Microsoft!
Ultimate goal is to use Power BI in Self-Service Mode to connect to our Multidimensional Model in the Cloud and publish Power BI Dashboards to SharePoint onlinne!
Thanks!
Simon
Solved! Go to Solution.
Analysis Service multi dimensional can only run on Azure Virtual Machines as IaaS. They do not have a SaaS that supports Analysis Services. I suppose from there you would use the data gateway to connect to the cube on the VM for your Power BI dashboards...

Yes as Frankk mentions above. Your only option currently is using the personal gateway for refresh and connecting to your cube via Power BI Desktop. This is a link to the personal gateway - you need this to refresh the data on the site, not to connect to your cube.

Sign up for power bi, download the Power BI Desktop, connect to your model. The Iaas is treated like an on-premise data source which is why you need the Personal Gateway.
For a whole slew of information, try looking on the support site here
Also, Power BI in Sharepoint is not how the new Power BI works. It's more it's own product now with different features to share etc. There has recently been an update and you can utilize API's to embed Power BI elements on your site (found here), which would most likely look something like this implementation that you can use for Excel and PowerPoint. Understand that the "new" Power BI doesn't work or behave like the "old" Power BI that is being phased out in December.

Thanks FrankK!
Have you seen any documentation on this topic?
