Common Data Service: Query performance - Which connector works best?

Hi all,
So far I know of 3 options to connect to the CDS:

  • Power Platform->Common Data Service [CDS connector: Source = Cds.Entities]
  • Online Services->Dynamics 365 (Online) [ Wrapper for OData Connector: Source = OData.Feed]
  • FetchXML API call [HTTP connector: Source = Web.Contents] generated by XRMToolBox (https://www.xrmtoolbox.com/plugins/PowerQueryBuilder/)

Which one has the best performance and is the recommended one?

Hi @trutz ,

For the 1st and 3rd one, we should use Power bi desktop to work on it. Also we can shape and clean data. By Online service, modeling is limited. For more details, please check the online document.

That depends on your request to choose which one. For the performance, I think that is related to your data source.

Hi @v-frei-msft
My post was about Common data service as the data source and the 3 options to connect to it. The question was which of these options offers the best performance to retrieve data from the Common Data Service.
Could you answer that one?

Any insights here? I was hoping to find some people that use CDS and the Power Platform applications as data source and could share their experience on how to efficiently connect to the data.
