Hi everyone,
we have a SQL database in Azure which is the source for most of our reports. For some days now, we witness problems with the scheduled refresh in Power BI service. They are running forever.
When we try to refresh the data in power bi desktop, we get the following error:
[DataSource.Error] Microsoft SQL:
A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake.
(provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - The specified network name is no longer available.).
However, if we try it immidiatley again in Power BI Desktop, everything works like a charm and the refresh in the Power BI Service will also succeed.
Do you have any idea what could cause this?
Best regards
Mathias
Hi @v-jingzhang,
thank you for the supplied links. My guess would be that the cause is described in the thread The specified network name is no longer available (microsoft.com) as "transient errors". Unfortunately the recommendec solution from the Microsoft Docs (Transient Fault Handling (Building Real-World Cloud Apps with Azure) | Microsoft Docs) is to prepare your application to encounter such errors and just retry it.
So how exactly am I as a Power BI user supposed to do that? Wouldn't that be something the Power BI team needs to implement?
Best regards
MMÜ
Hi @Anonymous
It seems not a Power BI or Power Query issue. Did you set up any Firewall rules in Azure portal that will restrict the access to the database?
See if these links are helpful:
