How Power Pivot Is Helping Legal Aid in BC

In early 2013, Legal Services Society, the Legal Aid Plan for British Columbia, experienced unprecedented cost increases. What was causing the increase was unknown. The Province of British Columbia was insisting that the Society contain its costs and not incur a deficit. Clearly a new approach to Financial Analysis was required, and the answers were required now - not weeks or months from now.


This presentation will focus on the successes and stumbles of implementing Power Pivot and Self Service BI that transformed financial forecasting of Legal Aid for the Province of British Columbia.

Eugene Wandell has been an accountant for over 30 years, with experience in the private sector as well as government where he has working in Health Care and the Justice System. Over the past 3 years he has been transitioning from Financial Statement preparation to Business Intelligence and the preparation of timely information that is leading to changes within the British Columbia Legal Aid Program.
