Power BI iPad App closes after clicking on report

So I've been having some issues with the Power BI iPad app.

1. The first is that the whole "spinning" refresh icons that never seem to go away. And the report visualizations itself can load in seconds, or take forever to load. I've found that if I exist the report, sometimes those same visualizations appear again, sometimes they don't.

2. The second is that I have a report that once I select it, the app automatically closes and I'm back to the iPad desktop.

I'm running Power BI version 6.9.

On iOS 9.3.1

iPad Model: MD786LL/A

Any thoughts on a fix would be great.

Hi @Anonymous,

We released a new update to the Apple store (7.1) that contains quality and stability fixes.

Please update you app and let us know if the refresh issue repro.

Regarding the report crashes, is this occurring in any other reports?

Can you think of a special characteristics for this report?

We are sorry for any inconvenience.

Hi @RomiK,

As an update to my update, I went ahead and uninstalled and reinstalled the iPad app. I can now see my dashboards and reports on most of my projects. But when I go to the project that has that Long Text Viewer custom visualization that seems to cause the issue. I get a popup asking me if the iPad app can have access to my location information, I accept it, but I'm still unable to see anything in that report.

I then go to other reports that don't have this custom visualization and these are blanked out (even though I could see them before I selected that specfic report with the custom visualization)

If I shut down the iPad and restart it, the other reports and dashboards reappear. It seems as though selecting the report that has that custom visualization not only impacts not being able to see that report but subsequent reports as well.

I don't know if it's that specific custom visualization or the process that the app takes on by bringing in that custom visualization. But that might be the issue here.

Hi @Anonymous,

We have deployed a fix to production that should resolve the issue.

To make sure you're using the last version please kill the app, open it and pull to refresh, No need to uninstall.

Please let us know if this resolved your issue.

Note: We are aware of the slowlyness issue and we'll invest time in it in the coming weeks.

Thanks,

Romi

With OIS 9.0 and latest Power BI APP the Problem Goes away

Hi @drsuper

Happy to hear this was resolved.

Hi @Anonymous,

We are experiencing some issues with rendering custom visualizations on Power BI mobile apps.

We are working on a fix for this and will update soon.

Thanks.

Hi @RomiK,

Thanks for the response. It's great how responsive these forums are.

So there was one thing that was different in that report that was incurring the crash. I was using the "Long Text Viewer" custom visual. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be away to remove that custom visual once it's been added, so I can't truly test if that was in fact the root cause of my issue. I can remove the visualization itself, just not the tool.

And the Apple iPad app update of 7.1 seems to have made the situation worse. I open up my projects as Reports and now the Power BI App doesn't show any of the visualizations that are in the report. I've tried this with several reports and none of them show up. The whole report is just a blank page.

I then "pinned" an entire page of one of these reports as a new dashboard and some of the visualizations show up, but not all. It appears that all of them show up, then some of them "disappear". When I click on a visualization in the report to take me to the dashboard, I just again get the blank, white page.

The version of Power BI Desktop that I'm using is: Version: 2.33.4337.281 64-bit (March, 2016). I updated the Desktop to the newest version: Version: 2.33.4337.501 64-bit (March, 2016) and reloaded a report, and still nothing.

Everything seems to work fine on the website version of the reports / dashboards...

Thanks.

When were these updates released?  Also were any new updates released for the iPhone?  We are experiencing the same issues with the iPhone App (currently on v7.1).
