And no way to create a specific button or link ?

Hey @athaler1971,

You can add hyperlink to your report page that points to the dashboard (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-add-hyperlink-to-text-box).

In the current Power BI Mobile app, tapping on that hyperlink will open the mobile browser, and in most cases, you will be redirected back to the app, and the dashboard will be opened.

We are working on improving that experience, and in the near future - the link will be opened directly in the app.

Hi Maya, @mshenhav

Any update to this? It's 2 years on and the user experience to return from a report to the dashboard is still terrible.

Hey @Anonymous ,

In Power BI mobile app, we implemented a native Back behavior in the artifact header. This is the "<" on the left side of the header. So when you open a dashbord and then a report from that dashboard, you can use the back button to go back to the dashboard.

If you want to have button for navigation placed on the report canvas,  you can also add a button or link element to the report itself, that will navigate to any other Power BI item, including the dashboard.

Hope it helps,

Maya

RE: You can add hyperlink to your report page that points to the dashboard (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-add-hyperlink-to-text-box).

Unfortunately this won't work in Power BI Embedded scenario... Defining an hyperlink to a textbox will open a new browser window as if you created a url link with target="_blank" attribute. Sorry no target="_self" option 😞
At this stage, navigation logic is mainly focused on report context level. You may probably embed a main dashboard with a group of tiles - each pointing to a specific report - and manage to . However this won't work the other way around. The only way I coud think of would be to record the selected tile data info (i.e. dashboard id guid associated with selected tile id) in variables, then use those in loadDashboard() function called by a navigation link button located outside of the iframe... Does this make a bit of sense to you?

Is there really still no way around this? It kills the user experience of using a dashboard to drill into reports, and then the button for the dashboard opens in a new window!

Thanks for you reply.

Unfortunetaly it's doesn't work on ipad apps.

It will be great to have this option for people who aren't used to navigate in Ipad apps (boss for example)...
