We are having issues with a report build on top of a composite model in Power BI service.
The report cannot be viewed by users with read role in the workspace. Those users get the below message:
Couldn't load the data for this visual
Couldn't retrieve the data for this visual. Please try again later. Please try again later or contact support. If you contact support, please provide these details.
The composite model in the workspace (workspace A) consists of a SharePoint-dataset and a Power BI dataset based in another workspace (workspace B).
All our users have a PRO-license.
Our test-user has a read role in workspace A, has access to the SharePoint-dataset and read-access on the dataset in workspace B. So, all his authorizations seems fine, but he nevertheless can't view the report.
We found a workaround to solve this: when we give build permission on the dataset in workspace B to our test-user, he is finally able to see the report.
That’s a good workaround, but that is not a solution in the long run. We don’t want to give the users with read permission (read role) in the workspace build permission on the underlying dataset to be able to view the reports.
Did you create a composite model by connecting both SharePoint and service datasets in Desktop ? What is the data source for your dataset in workspace B ? Can you describe in detail the steps to create a composite model report? I need to restore your scene as you said to confirm the permission problem .
