"Page is having a problem" upon desktop load

When loading the November 2021 version of PBI desktop, I get "This page is having a problem" with a refresh button.

Click refresh, the application loads properly.

Running on a virtual Windows Server 2019, installed via direct download (not the MS Store)

Hi,

I suggest you to refer to this link to check if your PC has met the requirement of running Power BI desktop:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/report-server/system-requirements

If you still have a problem, you can try to uninstall the desktop and go to download the latest version of the Power BI desktop and check if this problem can disappear.

For more info, please refer to this link:

Hi,

As far as I’m concerned, this error message seems to be related to the network condition of your local PC instead of the Power BI. I suggest you to check the network condition of your PC and log in to the Power BI service using another browser in an incognito window to check if the problem can disappear.

Thank you very much!

Just to be clear, this error is coming up in Power BI Desktop, not in the browser.

I am able to login to the service using a browser with no issue.

Below is a screenshot of the error, with the PBI Desktop launch screen in front of it.

However, you are correct, I have not seen this error on any other machine.

But our network settings having not changed.

Is there something special that Desktop needs to launch its screen? Some special port?

Your link refers to Report Server.

This issue is on the latest version of PBI Desktop.

It has been running on this machine for 2 years with no issues, with the monthly updates.

4 core, 24gb ram server 2019.

I have uninstalled PBI, cleared all cache, rebooted the machine.

The issue is still happening.
