fiscal year to date over fiscal year to date variance calculation

Our issue is the following: we have a dataset with "reporting month" in yyyy-mm format and "fiscal year" in yyyy format which is not recognized as a date in Power BI (we've tried several work arounds with no success). Essentially, the only date format Power BI is recognizing is the reporting month, which is in calendar year form, not fiscal. Fiscal year starts in August of each year and ends in July.

What we need: calculate fiscal year to date over fiscal year to date variance. We've tried every solution we've come across online and none have worked because we don't have a "useful" date format to work with.

Assistance with this issue will be GREATLY appreciated.
