Waterfall visuals no longer dynamic

Hi - I have a dashboard using waterfall visuals that used to work dynamically (e.g. you click on a bar and that affects the other visuals on the chart on the fly)
Now they only filter using page visuals

Seems to be a bug affecting others too - somoene else in my team has the exact same issue with an entirely separate dashboard

Only affecting waterfalls - other visuals working fine in this regard

Status: Delivered

Hi,

I've downloaded and opened the sample pbix file you posted, then I found that you are using the custom visual “Simple Waterfall” instead of the official waterfall chart in the Power BI desktop.

Then I found that the interaction seems to be an undeveloped feature for this custom visual. I suggest you to go to the support page of this custom visual to contract the builder of this chart to submit your idea:

Status changed to: Investigating

Hi,

I think you should first go to check if the interaction has been turned on for the waterfall chart with other charts, you can click on these to have a check:

I also suggest you to make sure you have updated to the latest version of the Power BI desktop.

Thanks Robert for the reply

These visuals have been working for months now with no issue - nothing has been changed in the interactions settings.
Just to be sure - I have asked our IT team to get me upgraded to the latest version but strange that it's affecting more than one person here in my team in the same way, with totally separate reports (and also saw someone else on this forum having the issue)

Hi,

According to my research and test, I can normally interact the waterfall chart with any other charts:

Would you like to post a download link of the pbix file with this issue without the sensitive data if it’s pssible and we can help you to check if it’s an existing issue in the Power BI?

If it’s not possible, I suggest you to open a support ticket to get the direct help from the technical support team of Microsoft.

Hello,

The exact same problem for me.

Description:

  • Happens for the 'Simple Waterfall' widget only
  • started to occur on the 8th of December 2021
  • both on existing dashboards (which worked well during months) and on new dashboards
  • impact for all users, regardless if we use the Desktop or the Server

Happy 2022!

Hi @Griff - if your problem is on the 'Simple Waterfall' only, like me, it might be a known regression that is going to fixed 'soon' if I understand well the following post from the developer: https://github.com/nishantjainuk/SimpleWaterfall-PowerBI/issues/75.

Happy 2022 again.

Interesting! Thanks John for the info (& happy new year to you too)

Hopefully it will simply be fixed, since I tried to raise a ticket and got lost in the admin - you just get directed to a bunch of automated questions

I know it's not something I've done, since someone else in my team who had created an entirely separate dashboard (with different data source) also has the exact same issue with waterfall visuals not working.
They can be filtered using dropdowns, but not by clicking on each others' bars

@v-robertq-msft when you say that your example worked - did you try creating 2 waterfall visuals and then clicking on one of their bars to see if it affected the other? In the pic you posted you appeared to just have one and a table. Reason I ask is that when I added a table to the dashboard tab, it can be used as a filter for all the waterfall visuals on the page.
