Unable to start PBI Desktop: "We weren't able to connect to the model"

Hi all,

Since last Friday (28-08-2020) I am unable to start Power BI Desktop. I am using Power BI Desktop on an AWS EC2 Instance that runs Microsoft Windows Server 2019 Datacenter. This was working fine, untill I updated Power BI to the August version. Downgrading to older versions does not help (I have tried this with several versions, e.g. July, June and May). Also, using 32-bit instead of 64-bit does not help too.

Thanks for any recommendations.

@Skoltn ,

Have you changed any data model or data source settings after installing the august version?

@v-yuta-msft thanks for your reply.

I have not changed any data source settings inside of Power BI Desktop, if that is what you mean, because I was not able to open it.

The issue still exists, although after trying several times the PBI desktop does open. When I close the report, and open it again, I get the same error message.

We are also noticing that app.powerbi.com is a bit unstable. A few times a day we cannot login to the service. Can this have something to do with the "connecting to model error"?

Thanks in advance for looking into it.

KR,

Jelle
