The credentials provided for the Salesforce source are invalid

I have multiple reports from SFDC which are connected to power BI. The scheduled refresh is set to evening 17.30 IST, but everyday the refresh gets failed and gives the below error message:-

Data source error: The credentials provided for the Salesforce source are invalid. (Source at https://login.salesforce.com/.). The exception was raised by the IDbCommand interface. Table: Double Down Opportunities.

Cluster URIWABI-NORTH-EUROPE-C-PRIMARY-redirect.analysis.windows.net

Request IDca440e40-1a55-4254-3221-d15c13069825

When I try to refresh the data manually, everytime this error comes up with new table name of the SFDC report. Please help as this quite frustrating and a lot of manual effort.

Hi,

Can you check if you have 'API Enabled' in your org on the profile which you are using for authentication?  Was this working earlier?

Hi,

Yes, we do have API enabled as we are using "Unlimited Edition" in our org.

To elaborate more, we have created a dataset wherein we have linked multiple SFDC reports to power BI. With the help of this dataset there are multiple dashboards which are been published and refreshed daily.

For the first few months, we do not encounter any issues and the dataset was getting refreshed properly. But now, almost everyday the scheduled refresh gets failed even after changing the time multiple times.

Is it because we have created multiple dashboards on this one dataset? Please advise.

Hi,

As far as I’m concerned, the interaction operations of the users within your tenant will also consume some resources that influence the data refresh. I suggest you to schedule the refresh time to midnight and check if it can succeed. If you still have this issue, I suggest you to open a support ticket to get direct help from the technical support team of Microsoft.

Hi,

I have changed the scheduled refresh time to midnight and still facing the same issue. One more thing which i observed, during the start of the week i have to refresh the data manually many times and as the week passes the manual refresh numbers also gets reduced. On weekends usually i have to refresh the data manually once after it gets failed or the data gets auto refreshed. Not sure if this is something to look into.

Hello,

We are experiencing exact same problem. Refresh succeeds in desktop, but the scheduled refresh fails. This issue started today, the scheduled refresh did work without issues about 1 year.

I was able to finally resolve this issue by turning off the Salesforce security setting called "Lock sessions to the IP address from which they originated".  I've included a screenshot below of the setting in Salesforce.  Before I turned this off, I was able to refresh a Salesforce dataset from Power BI Desktop but was unable to refresh the same dataset in Power BI Service.

If this does not work, the other things you might consider checking on the Salesforce side:

  • Ensure "API Enabled" is turned on for the user profile used by Power BI to log into Salesforce
  • Ensure Salesforce is not restricting the range of IP for login
  • Ensure the Power BI Connected Apps Microsoft Power Query (used by Power BI Desktop) and Microsoft Power Query Refresh (used by Power BI Service) do not have policy set up to restrict access
