The credential stored in the Cloud is missing / can't refresh

I'm getting this error since yesterday on a new dataset. It is a simple excel file table. I've done the following.

Signed out of Power BI Desktop and back in

Got the latest personal gateway

turned the gateway service off / on

republished multiple times during this process.

 

Others seem to be having the same issue. see thread here

There is a current support site error message, but it is specific to SharePoint as a data source only.

The internal CRI 27418567 is waiting for the response from the user who reported this issue. It seems that the fix is already implemented.

I am having this issue today, so it doesnt seem like the fix has been implemented. Any status?

I am also having the issue.  I wrote a new PBI and went to schedule it and am having "The credential stored in the cloud is missing."

I fixed this by updating to the new version of power bi.
