'Skip test connection' option has no effect when updating credentials

On the server I tried to update the credantials for a API datasource with 2-step authentication. Previously we set the datasource to anonymous and the used the 'Skip test connection' option. This worked fine. However, when I now update the credantials I get the error message below. This seems like a bug as to my understandin this test should be skipped.

I have tested on my side, but not reproduce this error.
