Relationships between tables and PowerBI crash SQLDUMPER.exe

Hello everyone,

Since the new December version has been released, I keep having crashes of Power BI over and over trying to link two tables...

As soon as I want to create the link (drag and dropping a dimiension to a table to another table) the windows terminal opens with SQLDUMPER.exe and close/crash Power BI.

I have never experienced this before the last release.

Thank you for your help

I encountered the Relationship Manager SQLDumper crash with the December release, but haven't experienced it recently.

HOWEVER, on a daily basis now, when I go to publish a report, my account gets signed out at the top right of the page, the SQLDumper terminal appears seconds later, and the PBI freezes until I CTRL-ALT-DEL my way out. This has been happening consistently since the January release.

Further update, I have installed the March edition of Power BI desktop and this issue still exists. I attempt to create a 1:M relationshipt between two tables, one has about 30k rows and the other has about 3 million rows. Full stack trace below...

Same issue, I have a Report in porduction that I now cannot edit.

It crashes, and once crashed, you have to kill powerbi from the task manager.

I'm stuck until this gets fixed.

Hi Guys, It looks like this issue may have been resolved (sort of) in the April edition of Power BI desktop.

It now allows me to create the same relationship that was previously failing, it does return an error message informing me that something went wrong but it doesn't crash and allows me to continue editing the report.

The error message I got is pasted below for anyone interested.

Colleagues, anyone still experiencing the issue?

  1. I connect 3 tables (each 50M+ rows) in Direct Query - works fine
  2. I create surrogate keys on those tables in PBI (maybe not the best idea) - works fine
  3. I create one relationship on the surrogate key (1:M, both directions filter, assume referential integrity)
  4. the engine starts checking for referential integrity,
  5. I skip the check, because I know my tables have referential integrity - works fine
  6. I create another relationship like above, click OK - it crashes with SQLDUMP

Version: 2.60.5169.4101 64-bit (Juli 2018)

***

Update after 3 minutes: tried different approach, but it crashed again

  1. I connect 2 tables (each 50M+ rows) in Direct Query - works fine
  2. I create one relationship on tables' existing keys (1:M, both directions filter, assume referential integrity) - works fine
  3. I would now like to add a third table. I click Get Data, select my SQL server, and before the server browser appears, it crashes with SQLDUMP

Can you attach an image of the relationships? That error does not come up often now as it was a bug with Power BI from months ago. I would say that it is throwing an error based on the relationship not being many to 1. Try to not draw the arrow from one dataset to another. Use the create relationship function and enter the fields that you want. The error should appear there and it won't do a sqldump crash. So this way you can validate and fix relationship.

Every 2nd - 3rd time I switch to relationships, Power BI crashes. About every 4th - 5th time that I edit queries and then Close & Apply, it crashes. I've tried on multiple PCs... all really beefy ones. Same thing. Need some help.

I am having the same issue here, November 2018 release

My solution was to get off of 32-bit PBI and on to 64 bit. Has not crashed since.

Thanks MacDaddy. I can confirm that I am currently running a x64 bit machine and desktop application. I think I am making some progress now with the data model when I do not skip the validation step.
