Power BI DataSet Refresh Timeout Expired

Hi

We are intermittently experiencing Timeout Expired Errors while DataSet Refresh.

The above Error observed on May 12,  May 16, June 8, June 16, July 15, July 16, July 20, July 25 2022

When run in next refresh cycle the refresh is successful.

Also tried to replicate the issue by modifying the power queries used to refresh to query during specific timeperiods the issue was observed. When refreshed from Power BI Desktop observed no issues and refresh happens in less than minute.

Need help in finding root cause of the issue and next steps to mitigate the issue.

Sample Error :

An error occurred while processing the data in the dataset.

Refresh failed:

AzD has failed to refresh.
Failure details: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation.

Next refresh for AzD is scheduled for July 25, 2022 18:00 UTC.

Hi @ykotamraju,

May I know what’s the data source of your report dataset? What’s the connection mode to the data source? Is your report data large? What kind of capacity are your dataset resided in?

Could you please check the refresh history of your dataset and check how long the refresh lasts normally?

The DataSource that is used is Kusto.

We use Import method.

The result of all data refresh queries would return around 500k - 1 million rows.

From the Data Refresh History each refresh was taking on an average 2 minutes and observed max 9 minutes on one instance of refresh in last 2 days.
