Memory issue with Report Builder - unable to load large dataset

I am unable to load a 6gb dataset into Report Builder desktop, even if i filter on just a small selection.  Not sure why.  I am able to load smaller datasets from the Power Bi service no problem.  Just with this larger one, I am having problems.  I tried filtering but that did not seem to hlep

If that is the case, consider breaking the dataset into smaller pieces.

yeah - that's what we ended up doing.  at the end of the data, the issue was a slicer filter that somehow wasn't filtering records out of the dataset, but including them all.  fixing that helped with the memory error we were getting.
