When using multiple fields in the columns section of a matrix visual, it shows the value of the total for the previous higher level column category, but without the column displaying the word "total" in the header of the visual. Instead the first level column category continues in sequence and therefore the data value under the column header is incorrectly showing a total and not the real value for the text header being indicated. The real value is moved to the next column and therefore is also incorrectly labelled, which continues throughout the rest of the visual.
In my example if you have "Days" in columns, then add "Weeks" above the first value of the second week shows the first week's total, and the first day of the second week's value shows under the second day - all of the data values are pushed along by 1 column. This means values do not match to the days labelled above in the header as they continue in sequence with no indication of "total" column headers.
Column subtotals is toggled to off by default. Toggling column subtotal on then back off shows the data correctly as a workaround.
In my opinion the column subtotal values should not be displayed if the column subtotal switch is toggled to off (default position), but if the subtotals are added in to the visual by placing multiple fields to Columns section, then the "total" column header has to be displayed also.

Currently when disabling total values in matrix, all hierarchies of matrix would not show the total value, it is by design in Power BI Desktop.
If you want to show total column header when adding new columns in matrix, perhaps you can submit the requirement to ideas and add your comments there to make this feature coming sooner: https://ideas.powerbi.com/ideas/
