Error Unable to connect xls file

When trying to load data from a local ".xls" file it generates an error "unable to connect" with the detail: "We don't support reading encrypted workbooks", however the file is not encrypted or with a password. In fact, from my PC the same file is loaded correctly and from another PC (from a colleague) that error occurs.

This may not work if you have a huge or elaborate workbook you're pulling from in Excel, but I have gotten past this error by copy-pasting the table I'm trying to load into another workbook - just paste values, not formatted table. Then I save the new file and load that sheet rather than the table. It works... I find this error to be absolutely ridiculous and a hassle, however.
