PBI Desktop, manual download not appstore. Latest version. End of message for details
Post download of latest version, i opened a previous desktop report, brought in another data source from SQL server (2016), and published without any issues.
Then i opened a new PBI desktop window to make a new report, and since then i am getting this error message for all reports when i try to get source data.

I tried the latest version (2.87.923.0) but cannot reproduce the issue. You may try earlier versions from Previous monthly updates to Power BI Desktop and create a support ticket for assistance if necessary.
I installed October version and this has resolved the issue.
There must have been inadequate testing on the November release and issues remain on the November release. Issues with latest releases is becoming a very common occurrence.
