Deploying a report with the same name in Service

Hi PBI team,

Problem: I deployed a report in PBI service with the same name and an existing dataset was replaced. I'd like to report this issue to Microsoft as it shouldn't happen. Because you could accidentally mess up somebody else's report by just replacing the existing dataset.

Suggested solution:

1. It should create a unique report IDs for each report. Even though the names are the same, datasets won't be replaced. It's not ideal solution though

2. Ideal solution is to force the user either change the name of report or just add a numbering to the name. The same way when we try to paste file with the same name, it creates a file with (1). Filename.xlsx and Filename(1)xlsx

Hi @Anonymous ,

This feature is not supported for now. You can create a report in Power BI Desktop and before publishing it to the service, you can select Save - Change its name to XXX (1).

If you would like to suggest some feature improvements, you may also vote the idea and comment here  to improve this feature. It is a place for customers provide feedback about Microsoft Office products . What’s more, if a feedback is high voted there by other customers, it will be promising that Microsoft Product Team will take it into consideration when designing the next version in the future.
