Date formats not applied correctly

I am having this issue since almost a year now.  Date formats we select here are always the short version with the asterisk in order to apply user settings.

Mine are always set to standard US date formats.  Then why do I still get the long date formats on Power BI Desktop????

Will this ever get fixed?

Hi @FireFighter1017 ,

Please try change the settings in Power BI Desktop like below(choose the region you actually need)

For how language impacts the data, you may refer choose-the-language-or-locale-of-power-bi-desktop. In addition, I think this article may help you.

Hello @v-xiaoyan-msft ,

I appreciate your effort in resolving this quickly but I think you misunderstood my problem.

On the screeshot, I sent, you can clearly see, the date format that is set int the published dataset I am using in this report is supposed to display this date field using the SHORT date format from the end user's regional settings as I could see from the report's "Column tools" when I clicked on this field.

But the report displays the LONG date format instead.  So either the report displays teh dates in he wrong format, or the information displayed in the "Column Tols" tab is incorrect.

Being a report connected to a published dataset I opened the dataset in Power BI Desktop to see if really the date format was the short date or the long date.  Just in case the column settings I was looking at from ther report were accurate or not.

This is what I could see in the "Column tools" tab in the dataset file:

The dataset shows a long date format but the report was showing a short date format.

I changed the date format in the dataset, republished it and it looks good now.

So obviously, report's "Column Tools" is wrong and does not display the correct date format used by the dataset.

And this is an intermittent problem.  Usually, when I see a long date format, I look at the column format, and I can see ther it is using the long date format in the dataset.  But sometimes it does not show the correct format applied.

After all this, I hope you will reconsider your "Delivered" status and have someone look into this because I gave you everything I could in order to confirm this is a bug.
