Dataset Parameters

Hi, Since the publishing of the new look to the power bi service, parameters that are set in a desktop file, are not able to be amended once published up to the service. Unable to change the parameter once the dataset is in the service and it keeps defaulting to the one set in the desktop file.

Hi @KellyHewitt

How did you set query parameter in Power BI desktop?

Based on my test, if we specify the data type of query parameter values and use parameter to filter rows, we are able to edit parameter values in Power BI service with new look turned on.

Hi Qiuyun Yu,

Yes it was set as a date parameter in the desktop to filter row values based on date so that we only had the last 3 months worth of data in the desktop datamodel.

As soon as the model is piblished up to the service, the parameter needs to be changed to allow for a greater amount of data in the datamodel. As soon as you change the parameter setting in the service, click apply ad ten refresh the dataset, the parameter defaults back to the values that were set in the desktop file.

Hi @KellyHewitt

Based on my test, after changing date type parameter values in Dataset Settings then refresh dataset, come back to Dataset Settings, the parameter value is the one that we changed previously.

Please test again on your side, after applying parameter value change in service, how about the result with refreshing dataset or without refreshing dataset?

Qiuyun Yu
