Count/Count Distinct Rows in Totals

We really need the ability to display the Count of values in a column in the bottom summay row of a table.  If you use summarize on the column, you lose the cell values and they all go to 1.  This is a simple ask.  If you can sum numeric values automatically, why can't count/disitnct count of other types do the same?  My example is that I have a large report of Serial Numbers and I want to display the count of those numbers in the summary/total row.
