'Couldn't load the model schema' message when connected to company VPN

When starting 64bit Power BI Desktop on Windows Server 2012, I immediately get the message "Couldn't load the model schema". Subsequently, When I try to load data, say an Excel file, I get the same message and the load fails.

If I disconnect from the company VPN, startup behaves normally, and the load of the Excel data does not fail.

Hi Herbert, Sorry for the delay. I downloaded and installed the June update. I do not see the error with this version either when I initially open Power BI Desktop, or when I load the Excel file of random numbers. However, when I try to load a visual as you ask, I get a message "Can't display the Visual". Here is the link to all the files, traces, and details. https://1drv.ms/u/s!AqqE2kkIptu4hGKVcfFjd3Iyt-iL

Thanks, Matt

Any progress with this issue? I am trying to access the database through my company's VPN and it keeps failing with this error. I am using the latest version: Version: 2.53.4954.621 64-bit (December 2017)

It would be great if you guys could fix it as I am unable to use the product like this.

I am trying to connect to 7 tables but I keep getting 'Couldn't load the model schema'. Can you please let me know if I need more memory or just work on a server.

Are you using the connection over a VPN?

No, I am in the office using the company network.

@zoveress Hi, I have the same issue too on company VPN. January release is the same.

My issue has not been solved. I RDP into a box inside the VPN then I do the reporting from there.

Would you please share a reproduce machine as suggested before by Herbert?

This is an issue that is specific to the user’s platform. To get to the bottom of the case, we need you to set up a repro machine and give Microsoft permission to remotely log in, install diagnostics software, and run debugging software.

Best Regards,

Hi, I am sorry, but I can not provide access to a computer that has access to the company network via a VPN connection. Is there another way I can help, or another user experiencing the same problem that can provide the access you are looking for?

Regards, Matthew
