Connecting to Analysis services in desktop, using basic login

When connecting to Analysis services in the latest PowerBI desktop using the basic login fields it gives the error message

Unable to Connect: "Details: AnalysisServices: Object reference not set to an instance of an object"

I get the same error when using a random servername or random user/passwords so I'm fairly sure it's not even trying to connect

This doesn't happen when I use windows credentials option, it either connects and tells me the credentials are wrong or gives a no server error when I try to connect to a random address.

interestingly this doesn't happen in the june version of PowerBI so it seems to have been a bug introduced in the latest versions.

Does anybody know how to get around it in the November release, or if a fix is in the works?

Hi @Moorest,

Do you mean you connect to SSAS via HTTP. And the SSAS server and IIS runs as different servers as mentioned here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/analysis-services/instances/configure-http-access-to-analysis-s...?

The problem is not a server side issue, PowerBI desktop is just not communicating when trying to connect through basic login.

Hi @Moorest,

Would you please share some screeshots to clarify how you connect to SSAS in desktop and error message?
