Cannot configure database on Power BI Report Server (Aug 2018)

Tried to configure database for Power BI Report Server (August 2018) but it fails every single time with the exception:

 

Microsoft.ReportingServices.WmiProvider.WMIProviderException: An error occurred when attempting to connect to the report server remote procedure call (RPC) end point. Verify that the Report Server Windows service is running, and then retry the operation.

 

The service is running, already tried with local database and with remote database and still the same, even tried to provision a new VM and test in a clean install of the OS.

Do you create a new report server database or connect to a existing database? 

 

Please check if the SQL instance which you would like to host report server database meet requirements: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/reporting-services/install-windows/ssrs-report-server-create-a-report-server-database?view=sql-server-2017
