Unable to connect to SQL through Gateway

Succesfully installed and setup the enteprise gateway on my SQL server. Created a data source and tested succesfully through gateway management. When I try to connect via Power BI desktop I get a error 26 saying that server/named instance was unable to be found, yet I have all green lights on the web portal in gateway management.

Searched the forums and web and found no solutions. Server is hosted at another office. Followed several guides, I used the local servername and database exactly like its listed in the power bi web portal. I'm at a loss, anyone seen this before?

Hi @Anon,

According to your description, it seems that you are able to create the SQL data source under data gateway. But you are not able to connect to it in desktop, right?

In your scenario, is the data gateway installed in the same computer which hosted the Power BI desktop? Regarding the error 26 connect to SQL Server database, you can try the suggestion in this blog: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 – Error Locating Server/Instance Specified.
