PowerBI Personal Gateway install error - Sequence contains no elements

Hi folks

Can't seem to install the latest update of the Personal Gateway... To be honest I find this the flakiest and weakest element of PowerBI. Everytime theres a new version I have to uninstall the old version and install the new one three or four times before it works. This time it fails completely. Always dread this update.

I get to the "Please wait while we check a few more things" message and then I get a " Sequence contains no elements" error and the whole install hangs.

Can anyone shed any light on this as it could be a deal breaker for us using this product?

Cheers

J

I get this same issue. I've uninstalled the personal gateway and reinstalled it and I still see this message and the Personal Gateway fails to work. Please provide some assistance on this issue, or at least let us know that you're working on it.

Hi,

I have also an open ticket with "Power BI Basic Support". They're still working on it.

We solved the issue of being unable to uninstall using a tool called CCleaner, you can find it on CNET and others, be aware it's full of adware and cruft.

But it worked!

Also, make sure you clean out C:\Programdata\Microsoft\Data Transfer after any uninstall, just to ensure it's a fresh install.

I usually use CCleaner, but it didn't work for my case.

I managed to solved the issue thanks to the Microsoft support's team :

The product engineer was able to confirm that if we are not seeing the Data Management Gateway Service in Services.msc then there was probably an issue with install. We would ask that you uninstall the gateway one more time and reinstall from the following link  :

https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=615873
If this still does not work, then we will want to collect the logs from the following location:

C:\Users\<useraccount>\AppData\Local\Temp, looking for files like: Power_BI_Gateway_*.log

Please respond with your results when you have the chance, and we will able to move forward from there. Thank you again for your time and cooperation, and have a wonderful rest of your day.

Best regards,

Some assistance would be greatly appreciated Microsoft!

any fix available to address this Time out when registering gateway issue?

Hi Guys,

I got the same problem and opens 2 tickets with microsoft without any results.

Finally we tried to install the gateway with a different user that is a domain admin and it works. I have full right on this specific server but it seems it's not enough it really need a domain admin account.

Hi any update regarding this issue?

I'm also having problems with a recent install attempt of the Persaonal Gateway.  Both our dev and prod machines has the AS Connector installed.  After uninstalling the AS connector and then installing the personal gateway (on BOTH dev and prod machines), the Power BI Personal Gateway confgurator starts on the "Please wait while we check a few more things." and then reads "Time out when registering gateway." at the bottom.  I can't go anywhere from this screen and have hence never been able to configure the gateway.

Also, I've tried uninstalling the Gateway from both Dev and Prod, and it fails with the following message in the log.  Any help would be greatly apprecaited.

Are you sure, you have proper Administrative rights on your PC.

Try - right click on the downloaded file and do "Run as Administrator".

Please try to help. We all know how to right click and install as an admin. Please credit us with the basic trouble shooting know-how... Makes no difference. Uninstalling and reinstalling results in same non-descript error of "Sequence contains no elements" . This has been flakey from day one in my experience. Someone at Microsoft must be able to replicate this error as it has obviously been put there by a developer at some stage in the development of the app.

Exact same problem here. Disappointing that I need to be paranoid about flaky upgrades.
