Help connecting to a data source

HI there

Hope someone can help.  I work in a elementery/middle school and I am trying desperately to connect powerBI with our student information system.  The company allows me to access the backend of the data which I am using via pgAdmin, I can go into here after typing in our credentials and query the database, now I am really really wanting to connect to powerBI so I can produce amazing reports/dashboards etc.  I want to create dashboards that make the data easy to read for teachers so we can pickup on issues far quicker than we are now and make it a living document.

How do I connect to PowerBI?  Am I able to make an ODBC connector with the details I have from pgadmin or I have been hearing about using postgreSQL.  I don't know hwo to do this and we have limited resources, anyone out there able to help me big time?

Appreciate any support on this

@Ayupchap,

Do you want to connect to PostgreSQL in Power BI? If so, you can use one of the following options.

1. Use postgreSQL connector in Power BI Desktop.

2. Create a ODBC data source for PostgreSQL database, then connect to the ODBC data source via ODBC entry in Power BI Desktop.

After you create reports in Power BI Desktop, you can publish PBIX file to Power BI Service and create dashboard there.

Thanks so much

I managed to create an ODBC DSN and link that way now but I couldn't get the direct PostgreSQL data connector within microsoft PowerBI to work, I get the error - This connector requires one or more additional components.  ANy idea what I am missing to do it this way?
