Error refreshing ODBC connection

Hi all

OK so I get this error when  try to manually refresh my ODBC data.  Is this not possible to do this?  If I were to create a new one using the same connection details it works fine.

The error is as follows

DataSource.Error: ODBC: ERROR [HY000] [Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-12170: TNS:Connect timeout occurred

ERROR [IM006] [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed
ERROR [HY000] [Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-12170: TNS:Connect timeout occurred

Details:
DataSourceKind=Odbc
DataSourcePath=dsn=PowerSchool WORKS
OdbcErrors=Table

Any help much appreciated

Hi @Ayupchap,

From your description, it seems this issue happens on Power BI desktop, right?

1. Regarding the error "ORA-12170: TNS:Connect timeout occurred", you can try to follow suggestions in this thread to troubleshoot.

2. Please check if you create a User DSN or System DSN in ODBC administrator, try to create a System DSN instead.

3. It seems you use ODBC to connect to Oracle database, as there is a built-in Oracle connector in the Power BI desktop, you can use Oracle data source directly.

4. Please try to run the Power BI desktop in the latest version.

Best Regards,
Qiuyun Yu

Thanks so much for this, super helpful.  I now have it working amazingly but whats the difference between a user and system DSN?  Are they created in different places?
