Crosstab report - module 2, topic 8

How can we place years across the columns as in the beginning of this video? 

I do not see the row and column choices as the instructors user interface shows.

 

the year column in Date is a whole number - is this a factor in not showing this table format?

ah, after looking for a dax function to convert whole number year, the easier way is to grab the year off date.

in edit queries of the date table:

DateYear.PNG

on the report, select the Matrix visualizer - the rows, columns are available

I accidentally discovered that the crosstab report is a matrix and not a table.  The matrix icon is next to the table icon in the Visualizations panel on the upper right.  Since they are next to each other and not particularly distinctive, it is easy to make a mistake.  The report we are trying to build looks very much like a table to me.  Very confusing.  Screenshot attached.

Basic transformations for date columns formatted as 'text' to date columns formatted as 'date' can be found in Module 1, Basic Transformations:

When I tried this, I got an error saying 'The data value must contain Date component'..? Help needed !!
