Re: Power BI Embedded vs Premium: Clarifications

@RogerT - good work! You've read the paper properly which is what I should have done. I feel much happier about that, although of course we'll have to see what happens to the speed when we get to 300 'renders' per hour. I'm guessing it'll start to slow down shortly after that.

I also noticed that there is an annual commitment to all of this. That's okay for us, but it doesn't help with start-up developers who are just getting started. Perhaps Microsoft could clarify this?

Guys, help to bring up the idea: https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas/suggestions/19255045-power-bi-premium-needs-l...

Not sure if that will change something...

Re: Power BI Embedded vs Premium: Clarifications

As a business owner buying into, contributing to and selling Power BI to customers as a small BI Specialist company we're VERY diappointed with the recent changes wrt embedding Power BI..!!

Developing a Power BI analytics capability with the ability for a small customer to embed this ability into their web-app and "pay as you use" based on tokens was what we "sold" to our SME customers.

Even with the reduced Power BI premium entry level most of our customers is sitting dry and our image is seriously damaged having "sold" what we thought to be the differentiator between Power BI and other competitors in market!!

Seriously hoping and trusting the Power BI team will re assess what they have done! Otherwise we will have to manage damage and change our staratagy away from Power BI!

Re: Power BI Embedded vs Premium: Clarifications

Hi nicksav,
I'm afraid you won't be able to use the Azure Portal - Workspace Collections -Workspace topology approach in Power BI Embedded scenario. You may still be able to spot Power BI Embedded option in the list though that's about as far as you'll get as Workspace creation form has been completely removed from last blade and replaced by a document listing steps that will help through Premium migration...😒

Hi,

I read all the comments and the feedback you shared, thank you for that. Unfourtunately I have no good news WRT the entry price point at this time. Just wanted to let you know you are not disregarded.

The entry-price EM1 package would make perfect sense as it's currently priced if it offered unrestricted usage for, say, up to 150 users. As it is, with the peak-hour page-renderring limits it's useless and nonsensical.

For an organization of our size (around 50 employees), we're clearly better off just providing Pro licences for those who will need to consume dashboards internally. It's just frustrating that we can't directly give our clients the ability to see what we're doing for them without telling them they'll have to pay for their own licences as well.

Re: Power BI Embedded vs Premium: Clarifications

Currently, I see that PowerBI Premium is purchased through the office admin portal, and NOT Azure.  Is this a permanent change?  We are a small ISV with some startup credit in Azure, and have been exploring use cases with PowerBI Embedded.  However, the cost being moved out of Azure and into Office means that our credit is no longer applicable.

Why the change from Azure to Office?  Is that ever going to move back into Azure?

You can stell do it. In the bottom of the doc page there is still a small link. I guess it will be available until the 1st of July 2018...
