Workaround to using multiple dataViewMappings?

I am working with Microsoft's enhancedScatter open source visual (https://github.com/microsoft/powerbi-visuals-enhancedscatter), and it is very clearly defined to utilize a categorical dataViewMapping. However, the dataset that I intend to use is much better organized using a Matrix dataviewmapping. Has anyone come up with a way to make the two different Interfaces work together? Or, has anyone come up with a tricky way to brute force the matrix data into a categorical schema through code?

I am currently going with the approach of trying to make an intermediary object that can convert between the two, but seem to be perpetually hitting a wall.

Any help or ideas would be great! Thanks...
