Refresh Power BI DataFlow using a Managed Service Identity MSI

Per this link from StackOverflow Refresh Power BI DataFlow using Azure DataFactory it seems like this would be possible and from an AAD security perspective makes sense.  I am looking to see if anyone else has done this.  I am looking to do the exact same thing in an Azure Synapse Pipeline.  I am going to try his JSON but I have to wait on my security person to add the managed identity into the appropriate security group and into the workspace.

WOOT WOOT IT WORKS!

  1. I setup a Web Activity in Azure Synapse Analytics
  2. Asked our Azure administrator to add the manged identity of Azure Synapse to the Power BI Apps security group (we have been testing using the App-Owns-Data-StarterKit)
  3. Added the managed identity as an admin to the workspace.
  4. Imported a DataFrame
  5. Refreshed the DataFrame
  6. Wrote a simple report that gives me the row count.
  7. Confirmed the row count.
  8. Added more data into the ADLS Gen 2 container.
  9. Made the API call.  See the Image at the bottom.
  10. When I navigated back to the Workspace I saw a refresh on the DataFlow was occurring.
  11. After it finished I did a manual refresh on the DataSet.
  12. The report showed updated numbers.
