DiscoverMonikers did not return an access token for DataSource with service email

Hi,

We are using python app to export PowerBI paginated report connecting with service email.

When export call is run we get this error.

ERROR:root:Export for report XXYYZZ Failed: {'code': 'PaginatedReportInvalidDatasources', 'message': 'RootActivityId(2017fb09-9014-4bd3-866d-31e517f3475b): DmtsDataSource: DiscoverMonikers did not return an access token for DataSource: <pii>"XZY"</pii>, DataSourceType: PBIDATASET, CredentialType: SingleSignOn', 'details':

When we use personal email, export works.

We went thru all the steps in the link

Embed paginated reports in your Power BI embedded analytics application - Power BI | Microsoft Docs

What else should we check or change to make it work?

  1. Service email is a part of the group that is allowed in service principals to use PowerBI APIs.
  2. This group is a member of the app that is registered and used in API call.
  3. App has access to workspace that where paginated report is published.

What are we missing?

Thank you!

Mitja

Thank you for your reply.

Two questions remain:

1. Was this changed in recent months as we used to run an api call with service principal account.

2. Is it known when this will be available for service principals?

Hi @mkavcic,

Exporting a paginated report with a PowerBI dataset as a data source is not supported yet for service principals.

Please check the limitations for exporting paginated reports in the following link - Export Power BI embedded analytics paginated reports API - Power BI | Microsoft Docs
