Different reports with the same datasource but different dataset credentials makes all data the same

Trying to implement report templating, I have row level security established on my postgres datasource and a separate web ui that enables admin to determine what is in that RLS. These users need to interact with a report and only see data that belongs to them. My backend can handle this fine but I cannot figure out how to implement the different user access as the database and server are the same for everyone, their credentials are what need to change.

Separately, I am embedding the reports and have noticed I could specify a dataset Id and report ID, and so tested generating two reports but changing the db credentials between reports, when I publish them and look at them in the webservice, the report ids and dataset ids are unique, but the data is the same and changing the connection settings on the specific dataset changes both.

Questions:

  1. Is there a way to unbind the datasets so I can utilize the same data but with different credentials? This is a really big issue if it is not possible to reuse a single datasource...
  2. Is there any reason I cannot specify a different dataset ID in my report embed configuration so I can change this server side and my users in my web application will only be able to see the report data they have access to see?
  3. Are there any other recommendations to connect my postgres data with rls enabled on my datasource to reports that can be reusable in a paramterized way instead?

Thanks!
