I recently discovered that the the code that builds my custom visual on the powerbi cloud service isn't hosted locally. In retrospect this makes sense, but I'm confused as to what is actually happening since upon running 'pbiviz start' I get the message "Server listening on port 8080" I took this to mean that I was hosting the visual. So what is actually happening here behind the scenes?
The reason this came up is because I am trying to arrange for an HTTP request to be made from the visuals code, and it was querying localhost, but since the report is being hosted by powerbi it wouldn't work since powerbi can't query my local host. This seems to make development rather complicated....
Any insights? Answers? Ideas?
PBIVIZ start hosts Dev Server on local machine to allow PBI to load JS and CSS for testing and development.
To allow queries you should start another HTTP server with valid HTTPS certificate and CORS settings.
