Hi,
i want to offer an app, which needs to select some data like currency, geo data etc from a local SQL Server (no gateway).
So is it possible to promote a SQL Server, so that Power BI Service (exactly the app) can select data from it?
Is there another idea to manage the requirement to offer local data to an public Power BI app?
Thanks in advance
Andy

Hi @AndyR123
It doesn't support to directly connect to SQL Server database in Power BI Service, we need to first connect to SQL database in Power BI Desktop, create reports there and publish report to Power BI Service. However, it is possible to connect directly to SQL Server Analysis Services databases in Power BI Service.
You can review the following article about data sources in Power BI Service.
