Audit what a report user has searched for

I want to create a report that can provide additional information on contacts.  However, because of the type of information I must have a way to log the name of the contact that a report user has searched for, as well as the report user themselves.

I am not certain that it is possible to get this detail from Power BI Audit logs.  Is there another way that I can track searches within a report?

You may be able to achieve this by adding custom code or creating a custom solution that tracks user activity within your report. One option could be to use the Power BI REST API to log user interactions and store the data in an external database.

You could also consider using a third-party tool or plugin that provides additional user tracking and logging capabilities for Power BI. Some options to explore include:

  • Power BI Sentinel: a third-party auditing and analytics solution that provides detailed insights into Power BI user activity, including searches and filtering.
  • PBRS (Power BI Reports Scheduler): a reporting and distribution tool for Power BI that includes user activity tracking and logging features.
  • Zoho Analytics: a cloud-based analytics platform that integrates with Power BI and includes user activity tracking and auditing capabilities.

It's important to note that any custom solutions or third-party tools should be carefully evaluated and tested to ensure they meet your specific needs and adhere to your organization's security and data privacy policies.
