Alternative ways for report publishing

Hello everyone

I would like to know if there are alternative ways of publishing a power bi report against the service without employing the PowerBI Desktop app. I'm thinking of methods such as publishing through powershell script or c# code based on the power bi api. I do remember seeing something like that some time ago but my research wasn't successful.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Alternative ways for report publishing

I am not sure I fully understand the "without employing the PowerBI Desktop app" part, but if you would like to publish the Report through the Power BI API, the possible way is to publish the corresponding PBIX file.

There is a blog talking about the similar process (include the export/Import PBIX API, and the Clone report API), using PowerShell scripts.

Currenlty through the Power BI API, we could perform the following actions with the reports:

The Power BI REST API has the following Report operations:

Hi @l2aFa,

I've recently written a blog post about deploying reports in a multitenant environment.

Some parts in there may help you to get an idea (like how to copy a report, update credentials, set parameters, etc).

Hope it helps.

Re: Alternative ways for report publishing

Hi there

@v-micsh-msft Yes, you are correct. I'm looking for an alternative way of publishing the pbix files without using the desktop app Publish option.

@thanosd Sounds awesome!

Thank you both, I'm gonna look into both cases and I will share my conclusions!
