Access .pbix file with .NET software

Hi,

is it possible to access .pbix files with an .NET program?

I want to programmaticly change datasources and add tables.

I do not want to show the visuals in my software.

Does someone have an idea if this is possible?

Many thanks,

Leopold

Hi @leschi ,

The PBIX file as a collection of files and folders in a compressed zip package. If you need to manually view the contents you can rename the ".pbix" extension to ".zip" to create a .ZIP file and then extract the contents of the file.

Currently there is no such functionality from powerbi to access/modify the pbix file programmatically from dotnet.

Hi @leschi ,

Yes you can achive that using a PowerBI REST API

  1. Changing the data source- Use Update PBI DataSource API
  2. Creating Tables: Put Table using Push DataSet API*

*Push datasets API -You can only use this API against the datasets created via REST APIA normal dataset published from PBI desktop doesn't support this.
