Hi @po ,

As @amitchandak mentioned, you can connect to a dataset which has been published to power bi service in power bi desktop with Live connection mode.

For further discussion, you can share the error message that you have faced or some screen shots.

Hi,

Thanks for reply.

Error message below when try and import a dataset into an existing report which already has impoorted oracle tables as dataset.

This suggest not possible - would be good if coudl mix such data sources as saves 5 separate reports pulling in data from another table.

Also regarding dataflows - is it the case that if use dataflow in 5 reports as datasource it still has to import that data 5 times into each power bi report?

Also is it correct that dataflow would be subject to same 2 hour gateway timeout limit?

Thanks

@po , Not sure I got. But you can use a published power bi file as power bi source. In such case, you will only get the visualization view.

The functionality you are looking for is called "Composite Models" and they announced at MBAS recently that is coming soon.  You can use Power BI Dataflows in your case, I believe.  They are basically queries in the cloud that you can connect to in import mode and connect with other data.  Please see this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXq9GDfpv0Y

If this works for you, please mark it as solution.  Kudos are appreciated too.  Please let me know if not.

Pat
