total downtime of machine

I want to calculate total downtime of machine by machine status. if i select any machine name it has to show the total downtime of taht machine accordingly for example in the form of  1(day):23:5:5. Can anyone tell what should i do to calculate the downtime.

How can this be extended to report the line (with multiple equipment) and area(with multiple lines) Uptimes. For example:

Serial line : If a line has 4 machines , the lowest of the 4 should be the line Uptime 

Parallel line : all 4 equipment running in parallel : Average of all 4 machines should be line Uptime

Since the filter context for a unit would be only for taht unit , the line and area uptimes would be same as equipment uptime...any help would be appreaciated
